Congratulations to Shivam who played the UP state finals in Varanasi last week in the under-18 shooting event, which now allows him to move on to the Indian nationals in December / January.

Shooting runs in Shivam’s family. Both his parents work for state governments and were his inspiration, but it was previously a very expensive sport. After Abhinav Bindra won a gold Olympic medal for India, customs duties on guns and ammunition were removed and the sport finally came within the reach of those who were interested in practising it.

Although Shivam does not feel he can pursue the sport to international level due to the impossibility of practising at a competitive level here in Pune, he is hoping to do well in the nationals and return focused to finish off his first year.
