Who am I?

UWC Mahindra College welcomed Swami Govindananda, ex-Director of the Sivananda Ashram in Madurai, for two lectures on vedantic philosophy. Swamiji has trained many thousands of yoga teachers from all over the world over the last twenty years and has a world wide reputation for his wonderful generosity and enthusiasm.

In the first discussion, beginning with desire and how concentration is heightened when the mind has only one thought, Swamiji give an example of our joy at eating an ice cream and how desire decreases when the object of desire is readily available. He then guided us through an hour of negation (neti neti) to help us understand who we really are, how our true nature is happiness coming from the self (soul, God), and how all is connected through this oneness.

I am consciousness (existence), knowledge and bliss (Sat chit ananda).

The second lecture described and discussed the five "koshas" and gave practical tips on how to maintain good health.

His humour and gentleness, and the clarity of his argument were appreciated by all the participants, and we hope he will find time on his busy programme to return again soon.
